History

 In the beginning

The club was formed back in 1979 by enthusiastic American car owners who placed an article in the Belfast Telegraph requesting anyone with an interest in American cars to meet at the La Mon House Hotel that November.

That Christmas a party was held in George Fairman's home and from then on, monthly meetings were held in the La Mon House Hotel.

George was the first President of the club, with Maureen Conn as Secretary.

Other founder members were Pat Spiers, Dougie McCracken, Elaine & Harry Magowan, Jim Kingham and John & Sheila Parkes. At this time the Club was known as The American Car Club.

In 1987 Custom was added to the name to cater for those members who drove Customised cars.

The monthly meetings were moved to the Airport in Newtownards for a brief period in 1986 and then to the Ivanhoe Inn until April 1997. After this we met for a few years at The Quality Inn, Carrickfergus,  returning to the Ivanhoe in December 2000-2006.

Present day

The present-day club holds meetings in a variety of public places, along with the homes of willing members in hopes to accommodate members from across the country and the public, on the first Sunday of every month, except during the summer when an event happens on a meeting day. We have an annual Mothball Run at the start of the show season, and attend events throughout the year, both in Northern Ireland and further afield. The Notts Americana and AAC Summernats generally see ACCCNI members in attendance, and we can also be found at the Kilbeggan show, which is now the largest and most impressive display of American/Custom vehicles in all Ireland.

Club news is communicated on this site, and in a regular printed newsletter distributed to members.

The club has a couple of technical advisors who can provide knowledgeable information and carry out work on cars, including diagnosis of modern electronic engine management systems.

We have a wide range of American and Custom vehicles in the club, though the GM F-bodies, Corvettes, Ford Mustangs and assorted day vans are particularly popular.

We are always looking for anybody with an interest in American or Customised vehicles to join us at events throughout Ireland and the UK.
